Like A Fart In A Whirlwind

Our life is like a fart in a whirlwind. We admit. One minute we are running 100 mph in this direction, only to have a bit of a wind shift and a bad smell permeate our noses and we are off....running 100 mph in that direction.

In this whirlwind kind of life we lead, I post various bits about our life. Jace occasionally reads these posts or hears about them from you. In my recent posts about our move to Utah, Jace expressed to me that I had left out some important information.

We will be leaving our business, White Mountain Plumbing, Inc........OPENED and in good hands. What this means to you:

  1. If you owe White Mountain Plumbing, Inc. any money for services rendered....You still owe White Mountain Plumbing, Inc. money. Please remit payment at your earliest convenience. Thank you for your business - we appreciate it very much.

  2. If you were lucky enough to have the handsome Jace Baum plumb your abode, you are lucky enough to have all plumbing work still warrantied.

  3. If you happen to need any plumbing services now or in the future...Please call. Our employee of the year (our only employee and the "good hands" I referred to earlier), Josh, would love to be of service. He was trained by the master.
  4. Our little company is not out of work, business, or for sale. It would be alot like selling a 4th child, for me anyway. For Jace, it would be a lot like dropping off the cat our 2nd son is allergic to at the local Humane Society.
  5. Jace has never visited an oil field, let alone worked at one. While I am leaving self-employment (the White Mountains, family, and friends) with a heavy heart....Jace is hoping for greener pastures. He has been offered a job with an unbeatable salary, full benefits, and work...guaranteed work, which is exactly what Jace needs, even before the salary. If he decides the oil fields are not the place for him. He will come home.

For the 1st time in his 8 year career as a plumber, Jace found himself without one thing to do a couple weeks ago. Here is where the wind started to shift and the bad smell of a recession fart entered our lives. And here is where Jace traveled to Utah on a Thursday and found work on a Friday.

We have been tremendously blessed this past year with work. We have not felt as much as a hiccup in our work load. Many around us found themselves without work and warned it would catch up to us as well. We prepared. We sold a house. We stayed out of debt. We hunted plumbing jobs and checks like idiots (that was my sweet voice you heard on the phone, begging for payment). And now we find ourselves reading the writing on the wall. The work is disappearing. The dark and heavy recession cloud is pouring down on this entire community. But we have faith. We have faith in a Heavenly Father that is aware of the good people here and their desire to do right by him. We have faith the economy will turn around. We watch and pray.

We will continue to watch and pray.

We have just chosen to do it in Utah.

A strong north wind is blowing. Do you feel it?

Where?

Here.

Vernal, UT

Vernal is situated in eastern Utah on U.S. Hwy. 40 near the Wyoming and Colorado borders. It is the gateway to both Dinosaur National Monument, 20 miles east, and Flaming Gorge

National Recreation Area, 35 miles north. The geology of the region makes it of

interest to dinosaurs lovers and geologists.
Vernal is bordered on the north by the Uinta Mountains, the largest east-west trending mountain range in the Western Hemisphere. It is bordered on the south by the Book Cliff Mountains and the Blue Mountain on the east. Vernal itself lies in the Ashley Valley.

Population / Elevation:
7,900 / 5,050 feet above sea level

Weather / Climate:
Lying at a high elevation in the northeastern Great Basin Desert, Vernal has a semi-arid climate with low humidity.

Sounding a little familiar to anyone else?

Looking a little familiar to anyone else?

A little Holbrookish perhaps?

Welcome to Vernal. Home of the Pink Concrete DinosaurAnd don't forget this guy. The Green Farming T-Rex.

Will you still come visit?

Jace is promising me hundreds of acres of irrigated land, no wind in the spring, a Wal-mart, a K-mart, a new rec center, a huge library, a couple movie theaters, and this:

The Vernal Temple

I guess I can live with that.

I will be venturing to my new hometown next week. Do you think the local JB's will be serving turkey on Thursday? I plan on taking photos. I plan on coming home and telling you all how much I'm going to love living there.

Every Home Needs One.

A two year old.
Ours celebrated his second year yesterday.

His name is Ezra.

He turns down the hot water temperature on the water heater every time he walks by, resulting in luke warm showers for the rest of us. He still loves to eat dog food. He hasn't learned to appreciate Noah like the rest of us. He will say "hi mom (or Mace, Noah, Dada)" over again and again until you greet him back. He still only likes his mother to get him out of the crib. He is learning to sleep with Noah at night. He loves to watch Peter Pan and walks around with loose trampoline springs pretending to be "Capoha" (captain hook). He didn't want to blow out his candles yesterday...it was great fun to just watch them burn. He can be found outside on most days, despite the frigid temperatures, with no shoes on, snot running down his nose, riding his bike.

Ezra was a beautiful baby. A big baby. 10 lbs. 2 oz. and 23" long. His mother deserved 2 medals that day. And his father still claims he could be a labor and delivery nurse after "participating" in his arrival.

Ezra taught me that motherhood is a full time job. There would no longer be time-outs or time to sit the bench for an inning. He taught me that while there would be no more time for projects, fancy meals, or a daily vacuum, I could be happy. I must forget myself and go to work. I am a wife and mother, first and foremost. And I love it. My third child taught me that. My third child is now officially a toddler and I will miss the days when he was only mine. Thank you Ezra for bringing our home the sound of your feet in the morning, whispers of "I love you the most", and joy everyday.

That is why every home needs a two year old.

P.S. If you are lucky enough to own or acquire a two year old - Leave him home when you go to church, no one needs a 2 year old in sacrament meeting. Trust me.

I cried.

A Week in Review.

In no particular order.

  • I wish I would have remembered before last Sunday night that Macy required a "SuperStar" poster the following morning.

  • I wish I had known all the words and dance moves to the new High School Musical 3 movie on Monday night. Jace would have enjoyed sitting by me in the theater that much more.

  • I wish I would have really believed Macy was sick....and not just disappointed with the cafeteria's menu choices on Wednesday.

  • I wish I would have looked in her throat before Friday afternoon and discovered the strep virus covering her insides.

  • I wish I had learned of all the free movie selections at our local library before heading to Movie Gallery for a $30 movie night (including the late fees) every Friday.
  • I wish I hadn't had picked a fight with my friend, Jace Baum on Election night.

  • I wish Addie and Kirsten had been in Flagstaff with the rest of us yesterday.
  • I wish I had gone ahead and bought those beautiful black boots yesterday. The ones that cut the circulation off my baby toes. I needed them just this morning. For only 3 hours. My toes would have survived.

  • I wish I had been there to see Macy win her way to an undefeated soccer season yesterday.
  • I wish my brain was capable of taking Sunday naps, like the rest of my family.
  • I wish I had been on time to church today. One, to take the sacrament in the chapel and not the foyer. And two, to be there when I was sustained to my new calling - Compassionate Service Leader.

  • I wish Macy could stay home more often with me and the boys. No where to go. Nothing to do but stay home and play, draw, talk, laugh, and get better.

  • I wish we could have hot chocolate for breakfast, cereal for lunch and biscuits and gravy for dinner more often. Not just when Macy is sick.

  • I wish I had cut Noah's hair a couple weeks ago and not this morning. Maybe it will grow back before holiday pictures are taken.

  • I wish for this coming week to bring as much happiness as this past one did. Here's to more sick days, less Halloween candy, making-up, early Christmas shopping, cold days, and more lovely children.

The Baums did their part.

I voted yesterday.

He voted yesterday.

Even she voted yesterday.

We voted for him.

He lost.
<
Does John do funny things with his hands when he talks? Yes. Does he make my heart race with excitement? Not really. Is he George Bush? I really don't think so. Would he have been a strong Commander and Chief? Without a doubt.
<
This is my new President Elect.
<
<
Did he make history last night? You bet. Is he a brilliant public speaker/campaigner? Yep. Does he have a unique and interesting background/story? Ya. Can he possibly deliver on all of his world changing promises? Probably not.
<
<
I will support my new leader. I want to believe that he has the American people's best interest at heart. I want to believe he will not jeopardize our freedoms. I admire his accomplishment. I want to trust him.
<
<
So why does my stomach start to knot when I'm watching his acceptance speech (on my only fuzzy channel 6) and he starts promising people around the world "in forgotten corners" that we hear them? Why am I so anxious about his save the world policy? Why did I lose so much sleep last night?
<
<
Oh, yea. Because change is here.

I am a Jedi. Like my Father before me.

Jace's father dreams of being a farmer. Jace dreams of being a farmer. And believe it or not this dream has caused us (ME) some grief. He failed to mention this dream during courtship, engagement, and the first two years we were married. I believe it should have been stamped on his forehead. Right in the middle. In big, black, bold type.

Here's another little sweetheart that should have been stamped directly below the "I want to be a cowboy" dream:

HE LOVES STARWARS.

HE DREAMS OF BEING A JEDI.

Jace once stood in line at a movie theater, playing beach volleyball with people in full starwars costume for 6 hours so he could watch the first official midnight showing of Star Wars 3. True story. Isn't there a name for these die hard fans? Nerd, perhaps? Let's get real - I would have married the nerd anyway -stamp and all. I just would have been more "prepared".

In turn his offspring dream about being Jedi(s) and princesses in far, far away galaxies, flying spaceships, packing light sabers, and discovering secret family lineage.

Halloween this year was a dream come true:

May the force be with us all (especially their mother).

I asked for their best StarWars pose in this picture. Yoda didn't pay much attention but was happy to be there. Just pretend there's a light saber in Darth's hands. This was Macy's best Padme pose. And don't even think of calling Padme, Princess Laya - that's her daughter for goodness sake! Get it right people!
